UNIVERSAL EXERCISE UNIT

The Universal Exercise Unit, this amazing tool uses a system of pulleys, weights, and bungee cords to help you do exercises in a gravity-free position. Your child can stretch and strengthen their muscles without the weight of their body holding them down.

We also use the Universal Exercise Unit to train your child’s brain! By isolating one arm or leg from the other, we can re-educate their nervous system and learn to move each part independently. Using elastic cords for support, your child will be able to perform activities with confidence while developing motor skills and improving coordination.

The Universal Exercise Unit has so many benefits. It promotes independence, helps bones grow strong, and even prevents muscles from getting weak. It also helps to improve your child’s muscle strength and endurance, makes them more aware of their body and how it moves to help them feel more stable and balanced.

GAIT TRAINING

Our team of experts uses advanced techniques and evidence-based interventions to optimize gait mechanics in children of all ages.

We start by conducting specialized assessments to determine the root cause of your child’s gait impairment. With this information, we can systematically put the puzzle back together and improve their walking mechanics.

One of our most effective methods is gait training with body weight supported treadmill training. Using a hoist, we can control weight bearing, posture, and balance while your child walks on a treadmill or navigates obstacles. This creates the perfect environment for them to achieve a functional and efficient walking pattern. Evidence has demonstrated improved gait outcomes for both walking and non-walking children.

In addition to gait training, we can also utilize orthotics to provide stability, control, mobility, and sensory cues. This will help your child gain improved independence and success in their community mobility. If you’re interested in learning more about this, please see our collaboration with orthotics tab.

REFLEX INTEGRATION

Discover the incredible power of reflex integration for your child’s development. From the moment they entered the world, these reflexes played a crucial role in their safety and growth. But did you know that some of these reflexes should naturally fade away as your child grows?

Imagine your baby turning their head towards your touch or finding the breast for nursing – those are reflexes working behind the scenes. However, as your child reaches 5 or 6 months old, these reflexes become less necessary.

Reflex integration is the process by which these reflexes naturally phase out, making room for new stages of development. When a reflex lingers past its intended time, it can have adverse effects on your child’s learning, emotions, and behavior.

Our therapy methods can aid in the integration process. By using specific reflex patterns and rhythmic movements, we can help your child’s brain, nervous system, and sensory systems develop properly.

Through playful movements and light touch, we enhance the integration process, providing the brain with extra feedback. These natural movements not only nourish the brain but also lay the foundation for future learning, emotional intelligence, and social skills

COLLABORATION WITH ORTHOTICS

image

While physical therapy and intensive programs are undeniably beneficial, sometimes your child may require additional help to reach their goals. That’s where orthotic support comes in. Offering that extra level of assistance, orthotics can significantly enhance your child’s progress.

Physical therapists focus on strengthening the body, while orthotics target external forces to enhance alignment and movement. By combining these approaches, your child will experience the greatest benefits and have better control over the forces acting on them. This collaboration not only promotes safety but also develops motor skills, increasing their independence and confidence in daily activities.

If your child is part of an intensive therapy program and could benefit from orthotics, our physical therapists and orthotics specialists will work together to create a custom, innovative orthotic specifically tailored to your child’s needs and goals.

Keep in mind that each program is unique and personalized. Your child may need to wear the orthotic throughout most of the program or use it on and off during sessions. Our main priority is to provide whatever support necessary to help your child make the most progress towards their goals.
